About Our Eco Annexe
and where to find us

Designed and Built to be Carbon Zero

Looking after our environment, both local and worldwide, is something we have been passionate about for decades, and that is why we have poured our creativity into our Eco Annexe.  We also love hospitality, and many guests staying in our bed & breakfast, have simply just enjoyed the warm welcome that we provide.

Marie, your host, a fully trained architect, garden designer, and home educating mother of two, loves to share her home and her garden, giving that individual attention to each and every guest.

We moved into our Grade II Listed cottage in 2009 with a vision to bring it into the 21st century. Our Annexe began as an idea in 2012, and was completed in the Summer of 2016.  This section is a little about that project for those interested.

The concept - to build an extension that would use materials and technologies that would not only compliment the history of the cottage, but maintain a low impact on our beautiful environment.

The Annexe has a timber frame that is clad in wood fibre insulation, this is then rendered in some areas, and clad in timber in others. The floor and substructure are recycled glass, known as glass foam aggregate. The render is a cork and lime mixture, and the doors and windows are all Accoya® treated softwood.

We have continued the Eco ethos when furnishing the annexe.  We have tried to either repurpose or recycle furniture and furnishings. Our provision of consumables for our guests also follows the same theme trying to eliminate plastic use, and keep to an organic focus.

Our heating system utilises a large thermal store that sits in the older part of the cottage, and this is heated using excess energy from the Photovoltaic panels on the roof of the annexe, and from the Solar Thermal panels on the roof of the kitchen.  This is topped up with heat from a gas boiler, which we hope to replace with a non fossil fuel heat source as soon as we can. While we save our pennies to do this we buy our fuel from a green tariff with our Energy supplier.
